1 Scope

1.1 This standard covers primarily various thermoplastics singlyor in combination which are considered suitable for food contactapplications. This standard provides a general guidance to the foodpacker in selecting the specific thermoplastic material, singly orin combination, to design an acceptable food packaging system.

1.2 This standard, however, does not purport to provide guidanceon the actual design of the food packaging system or cover theshelf life requirements for various food products. With regard tostorage of particular food products, it shall be the responsibilityof the manufacturer/packer of the food product to conduct necessaryshelf life/keeping property test so as to determine the correctchoice of the thermoplastic system. This standard also does notobviate the end for knowledge on the compatibility aspect or shelflife parameters which in any case require to be established. Someproducts need pasteurization, sterilization and controlled storage;such details are not covered under the scope of this standard.
