IS 101 : Part 5 : Sec 5 : 2019/ISO 6272-2 : 2011 Methods of Sampling and Test for Paints, Varnishes and Related Products Part 5 Mechanical Tests Section 5 Impact resistance — Falling-weight test, small-area indenter

NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Part 5/Sec 5) which is identical with ISO 6272-2 : 2011 ‘Paints and varnishes - Rapid-deformation (impact resistance) tests - Part 2: Falling-weight test, small-area indenter’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau ofIndian Standards on recommendation of the Paints, Varnishes and relatedProducts Sectional Committee and approval of the Chemical Division Council.
The standard on impact resistance test methodwas earlier published in 1988, is one of a series dealing with sampling and testing of paints, varnishes and related products. The standard was subsequently revised in 1999 after incorporating an alternate method of test and taking assistance from ISO 6272 : 1993.
The earlier version of this standard was based (not identical) on ISO 6272 : 1993 ‘Paints and varnishes - Falling weight test’, issued by the International organization for Standardization, the committee decided to further revise the standard by adopting latest version of ISO 6272 on dual number basis. ISO has published ISO 6272 in two parts:
ISO 6272-1 : 2011 Paints and varnishes - Rapid-deformation (impact resistance) tests - Part 1: Falling-weight test, large area indenter
ISO 6272-2 : 2011 Paints and varnishes - Rapid-deformation (impact resistance) tests - Part 2: Falling-weight test, small-area indenter
The committee decided to adopt both the parts of ISO 6272 series to have complete set of test of impact resistance by falling weight method. This standard is adoption of ISO 6272-2 and will be new standard as the prescribe test method was not covered in previous version of IS 101(Part 5/Sec 3).
The other Indian standard on this test would be:
IS 101 (Part 5/Sec 3) Methods of sampling and test for paints, varnishes and related products: Part 5 Mechanical tests, Section 3 Impact resistance - Falling-weight test, large-area indenter
The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
