IS 101 : Part 5 : Sec 7 : 2024/ISO 7784-2 : 2023 Methods of Sampling and Test for Paints, Varnishes and Related Products - Part 5 Mechanical Tests - Section 7 Determination of Resistance to Abrasion by Abrasive Rubber Wheels and Rotating Test Specimen
NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Part 5/Sec 7) which is identical to ISO 7784-2 : 2023 'Paints and varnishes - Determination of resistance to abrasion - Part 2: Method with abrasive rubber wheels and rotating test specimen' issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Paints, Varnishes and Related ProductsSectional Committee and approval of the Chemical Division Council.
IS 101 'Methods of test for ready mixedp and enamel', initially, was published as a unified standard in 1950. The standard was subsequently revised in 1961, 1964 and 1986. During the third revision, recognizing the need for clarity, the committee decided to restructure it by splitting into various parts based on type of tests. These parts included tests on liquid paints (general and physical), chemical examination, film formation, optical assessments, and mechanical tests on paint film formation. Each part was further subdivided into sections, addressing specific tests within those categories. Further, it was decided that whenever a new test method was introduced, it would be integrated into the relevant part of IS 101, ensuring that the standard remained comprehensive.
This document specifies a method for determining the resistance to abrasion of coatings, for which two loaded, freely rotatable but eccentrically arranged abrasive rubber wheels affect the coating of the rotating test specimen.
This Indian Standard (Part 5) is published in several sections. The other sections of this series are:
Sec 1 Hardness tests
Sec 2 Flexibility and adhesion
Sec 3 Impact resistance - Falling-weight test, large-area indenter
Sec 4 Print free test
Sec 5 Impact resistance - Falling-weight test, small-area indenter
Sec 6 Determination of resistance to abrasion by abrasive-paper covered wheels and rotating test specimen
Sec 8 Determination of resistance to abrasion by abrasive-paper covered wheel and linearly reciprocating test specimen
The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions and terminologies are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a)Wherever the words 'International Standard' appear referring to this standard, they should beread as `Indian Standard'; and
b)Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker in the International Standard, while in IndianStandards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
