This Indian Standard (Part 1) (Second Revision) which is identical with 1SO 5673-1 : 2005 ‘Agricultural tractors and machinery - Power take-off drive shafts and power-input connection - Part 1: General manufacturing and safety requirements’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization was adopted by the Bureau of Standards on recommendation of Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Sectional Committee, and approval of Food and Agriculture Division Council.

This Standard was first published in 1982 based on ISO 5673 : 1980, and subsequently revised in 2002 to align this standard with ISO 5673 : 1993. The Second Revision has been undertaken to align the standard with the latest version of the ISO 5673, which has been split into two parts in 2005 Part 1 specifying ‘General manufacturing and safety requirements’ and Part 2 specifying ‘Specification for use of PTO drive shafts, and position and clearance of PTO drive line and PIC for various attachments.

This standard is adoption of Part 1 of ISO 5673. Part 2 of ISO 5673 has been undertaken for adoption as Indian Standard Part 2 of IS 10318.

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
