1 Scope

1.1 This standard describes a procedure for determination of theresistance to intergranular corrosion of austenitic stainlesssteels in a nitric acid medium by measurement of the loss in mass(Huey Test).

1.2 This method is applicable to austenitic stainless steelssupplied in the form of castings, rolled or forged products andtubes including weld metals and intended to be used in an oxidisingmedia (for example, relatively concentrated nitric acid)

1.2.1 The presence or absence of intergranular corrosion inthese tests is not necessarily a measure of the performance of thematerial in other corrosive media. The tests do not provide a basisfor predicting the resistance to other forms of corrosion such asgeneral corrosion, pitting or stress corrosion cracking.
