1 Scope

1.1 This standard (Part 2) describes a procedure by which thecopper sulphate-sulphuric acid test-is to be conducted to determinethe susceptibility of austenitic stainless steel to inter-granularattack.

1.2 This method is applicable only to austenitic stainless steelsupplied in the form of cast rolled or forged products and tubes,and intended to be used in mildly oxidizing media.

1.2.1 The presence or absence of intergranular corrosion inthese tests is not necessarily a measure of the performance of thematerial in other corrosion media. The tests do not provide a basisfor predicting the resistance to other forms of corrosion, such asgeneral corrosion, pitting or stress corrosion cracking.
