IS 10493 : 1983 Corrosion protection tests for temporary corrosion preventives

1 SCOPE

1.1 This standard prescribes various methods of testing thecorrosion preventing efficacy of temporary corrosion preventivesunder set corrosive conditions to determine whether a desiredstandard of quality is achieved.

1.2 The test shall be carried out on the following:

a) Standard test specimens, as defined in Appendix A, coatedwith a protective scheme under actual production conditions.

b) Actual articles, which are small enough to be exposed insidethe testing chambers or apparatus.

1.3 An indication of the types of protective, to which the testsmay be applied is given in Appendix B. The use of the tests for anyparticular purpose and the standard of performance required forsuch purpose are left to the discretion of those wishing to applythe standard.

1.4 For certain uses, the ability of a protective to preventcorrosion, when in the damaged condition is important. Provision ismade, therefore, for the test specimen to be subjected, if desired,to a standard form of damage, before they undergo test.
