NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 1) (Third Revision) which is identical with ISO 22514-1:2014 ‘Statistical methods in process management - Capability and performance - Part 1: General principles and concepts’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Statistical Methods for Quality and Reliability Sectional Committee and approval of the Management and Systems Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 1983 and subsequently revised in 1998 and 2004. This third revision has been undertaken to align it with ISO 22514 series ‘Statistical methods in process management - Capability and performance’ in order to keep pace with the latest international practices.

This part of the standard describes the fundamental principles of capability and performance of manufacturing processes. Other parts in this series are:

Part 2 Process capability and performance of time-dependent process models

Part 3 Machine performance studies for measured data on discrete parts

Part 4 Process capability estimates and performance measures

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
