NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 2) (Fourth Revision) which is identical with ISO 22514-2 : 2017 ‘Statistical methods in process management - Capability and performance - Part 2: Process capability and performance of time-dependent process models’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Statistical Methods for Quality and Reliability Sectional Committee and approval of the Management and Systems Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 1983 and subsequently revised in 1998 and 2004. The same was revised to align it with ISO 22514 series and subsequently superseded by IS 10645/ISO 22514 Parts 1 - Part 3. Third revision is being taken up to align it with ISO 22514-2 : 2017. vThis part of the standard provides a framework for estimating the quality capability or performance of product and process characteristics.

The major changes in this revision are as follows:

a) the symbols and indices in CLpk, CUpk, PLpk and PUpk have been improved;

b) in Table 2, row ‘Location’, column ‘C’, the letter ‘s’ has been replaced by ‘s/r’;

c) in Table 2, row ‘Location’, column ‘D’, the capital letter ‘S’ has been replaced by ‘s/r’;

d) in Table 3, row ‘Location method label’, rows ‘3’ and ‘4’ - in Formulae (13) and (14) the usage of indices has been improved and it is more precise now; and

e) editorial adjustments have been made to comply with the latest edition of the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2, 2016.

This Indian Standard is published in four parts. The other parts in this series are:

Part 1 General principles and concepts

Part 3 Machine performance studies for measured data on discrete parts

Part 4 Process capability estimates and performance measures

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
