IS 1068 : 2025/ISO 1456 : 2009 Metallic and Other Inorganic Coatings - Electrodeposited Coatings of Nickel, Nickel Plus Chromium, Copper Plus Nickel and of Copper Plus Nickel Plus Chromium
(Superseding IS 12393 - 1988)
NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Fourth Revision) which is identical to ISO 1456 : 2009 'Metallic and other inorganic coatings - Electrodeposited coatings of nickel, nickel plus chromium, copper plus nickel and of copper plus nickel plus chromium' issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Corrosion Protection and Finishes Sectional Committee and approval of the Metallurgical Engineering Division Council.
This standard was first published in 1958 and subsequently revised in 1968, 1985 and 1993. Electrodeposited coatings of Ni plus Cr and Cu + Ni + Cr that are applied to zinc alloys, copper and copper alloys, and aluminium and aluminium alloys which were covered in IS 4827, IS 4828 and IS 4942 respectively were incorporated in third revision of this standard to have unification of the requirements of these coatings in line with International Standards. Subsequently, IS 4827 : 1983 'Electroplated coatings of nickel and chromium on copper and copper alloys', IS 4828 : 1983 'Electroplated coatings of copper, nickel and chromium on zinc alloys' and IS 4942 : 1983 'Electroplating coating of nickel and chromium on aluminium and aluminium alloys' were withdrawn.
This revision has been brought out to align with the International Standard ISO 1456 : 2009 under dual numbering system. This revision also supersedes IS 12393 'Specification for electroplated coatings of nickel' as the requirements covered in IS 12393 has been covered in this revision.
Former title of the Indian Standard IS 1068 was 'Electroplated coatings of nickel plus chromium and copper plus nickel plus chromium - Specification' which was changed to 'Metallic and other inorganic coatings - Electrodeposited coatings of nickel, nickel plus chromium, copper plus nickel and of copper plus nickel plus chromium' as per the title of ISO 1456.
The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as in Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical with those used in Indian Standard. Attention is especially drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appear referring to this standard, it should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
