NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 1) (Second Revision) which is identical with IEC 60488-1 : 2004 ‘Higher performance protocol for the standard digital interface for programmable instrumentation - Part 1: General’ issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on therecommendation of the Electronic Measuring Instruments, Instrumentation Systems and Accessories Sectional Committee and approval of the Electronics and Information Technology Division Council.

This standard was first published in 1984 and was identical with IEC 60625-1 (1979). This standard was then revised and published in 2001 to align it with IEC 60625-1 : 1993. Since, the IEC 60625-1 has been replaced by IEC 60488-1, this standard is now again being revised to align it with the latest version of IEC 60488-1 : 2004.

This standard is published in two parts. Other part of this standard is:

The text of IEC Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions and terminologies are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker
