NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian standard (Part 3) (First Revision) which is identical with ISO 17642-3 : 2005 ‘Destructive tests on welds in metallic materials — Cold cracking tests for weldments — Arc welding processes — Part 3: Externally loaded tests’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Welding General and its Applications Sectional Committee and approval of the Metallurgical Engineering Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 1984. The first revision of this standard is being undertaken to align it with ISO Standards. The ISO Standard being adopted is published in three parts and hence IS 10842 is also split into three parts. This Part 3 is aligned with ISO 17642-3 : 2005.

The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical with those used in Indian Standard. Attention is especially drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, it should be as read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
