NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Part 1) (Second Revision) which is identical with ISO 12945-1 : 2020 ‘Textiles - Determination of fabric propensity to surface pilling, fuzzing or matting - Part 1: Pilling box method’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Physical Method of Test Sectional Committee and approval of the Textiles Division Council.
This standard was first published in 1984 and subsequently revised in 2011. First revision of this standard was based on ISO 12945-1 : 2000. At that time, ISO 12945 series was published in two parts only. Subsequently, two more parts have been added in this series, one on random pilling method (Part 3) and other on method for assessment of fabric propensity (Part 4). Earlier the method for assessment of fabric propensity was specified in all three parts (Part 1 to Part 3) itself.
