NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard which is identical with ISO 717-1 : 2020 ‘Acoustics - Rating of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements - Part 1: Airborne sound insulation’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Functional Requirements in Buildings Sectional Committee and approval of the Civil Engineering Division Council.

This Indian Standard was first published in 1984, which was identical with ISO 717 (Part 1) : 1982. This revision aligns with the latest version of ISO 717 (Part 1) and supersedes IS 11050 (Part 1) : 1984 ‘Rating of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements - Part 1: Airborne sound insulation in buildings and of interior building elements’. As the ISO 717 (Part 1) : 1982 and ISO 717 (Part 3) : 1982 were merged in the 2020 version of ISO 717 (Part 1), this adoption also supersedes IS 11050 (Part 3): 1984/ ISO 717-3 : 1982 ‘Rating of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements - Part 3: Airborne sound insulation of façade elements and façade’. Therefore, IS 11050 (Parts 1 and 3) : 1984 are withdrawn with the publication of this standard.
