National Foreword
This Indian Standard (First Revision) which is identical withISO 7181 : 1991 Hydraulic fluid power - Cylinders - Bore and rodarea ratios issued by the International Organization forStandardization (ISO), was adopted by the Bureau of IndianStandards on the recommendations of the Basic Fluid Power SectionalCommittee and approval of the Production Engineering DivisionCouncil.
This standard was first published in 1984 by adopting ISO 7181 :1982. The ISO Standard has since been revised as ISO 7181 : 1991.To align this standard with International practices, the SectionalCommittee (PE 14), dealing with the subject has decided to reviseIS 11146 : 1984 by adopting the above ISO Standard as dual numberIndian Standard.
In hydraulic fluid power systems, power is transmitted andcontrolled through a liquid under pressure within an enclosedcircuit. One component of such systems is the hydraulic cylinder. This is a device which converts power into linear mechanical forceand motion. It consists of a movable element, that is a piston andpiston rod operating within a cylindrical bore.
