NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (First Revision) which is identical to ISO 2033 : 1983 'Information processing - Coding of machine-readable characters (MICR and OCR)' issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Indian Language Technologies and Products Sectional Committee and approval of the Electronics and Information Technology Division Council.

This standard IS 11203 was first published in 1985 and was identical to ISO 2033 : 1983. This revision has been brought out to bring the standard in the latest style and format of the Indian Standards, and also to bring the following changes:

a) Front and back cover page as per present style;

b) Addition of Hindi title of the standard;

c) Replacing UDC No with ICS No; and

d) To update the Cross-referred standards.

The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are however not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appears referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.

c) ISO 1004 has been referred for E13B font and CMC 7 font in the scope (Clause 1). However, the standard ISO 1004 has been superseded by ISO 1004-1 : 2013 (Covers E13B font) and ISO 1004-2 :2013 (Covers CMC7 font)
