This Indian Standard (Part 1) (First Revision) which is identical with ISO/IEC 7487-1 : 1993 ‘Information technology - Data interchange on 130 mm (5,25 in) flexible disk cartridges using modified frequency modulation recording at 7 958 ftprad, 1,9 tpmm (48 tpi), on both sides - ISO type 202 - Part 1: Dimensional, physical and magnetic characteristics’ issued by the International Organization forStandardization (ISO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) jointly was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendations of the Computer Hardware, Peripherals and Identification Cards Sectional Committee and approval of the Electronics and Information Technology Division Council.

This standard was first published in 1986 and was identical with ISO 7487-1 : 1985. This standard is now being revised to align it with the latest version of ISO/IEC 7487-1 : 1993.

The text of ISO/IEC Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
