This Indian Standard (First Revision) which is identical with ISO/IEC 1864 : 1992 ?Informationtechnology - Unrecorded 12,7 mm (0,5 in) wide magnetic tape for information interchange - 32 ftpmm(800 ftpi), NRZ1, 126 ftpmm (3 200 ftpi) phase encoded and 356 ftpmm (9 042 ftpi), NRZ1? issuedby the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and International ElectrotechnicalCommission (IEC) jointly, was adopted by the Bureau of ,Indian Standards on the recommendationsof the Computer -Hardware Sectional Committee and approval of the Electronics and InformationTechnology Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 1986 and was identical with ISO/IEC 1864 : 1984 and has nowbeen revised to align it with the latest ISO/IEC Publication.

The text of the ISO/IEC Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standardwithout deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in the Indian Standards.Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ?International Standard? appear referring to this standard, they should beread as ?Indian Standard?.

b) Comma ( , ) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practiceis to use a point ( . ) as the decimal marker.
