NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (First Revision) which is identical with ISO 4794 : 1982 ‘Laboratory glassware - Methods for assessing the chemical resistance of enamels used for colour coding and colour marking’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Glass, Glassware and Laboratoryware Sectional Committee and approval of the Chemical Division Council.

This standard was first published in 1985 covering methods of test which were intended to give an assessment of the chemical resistance of colour marking enamels used on laboratory glasssware, colour coded in accordance with IS 11468 : 1985 ‘Specification for colour coding for pipette’. Detergent and acid solutions had been chosen to represent the most severe conditions to be encountered in practice.

Considering the importance of following the uniform practices globally, the committee felt the need to revise this standard by adopting ISO 4794 : 1982 under dual numbering system.

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
