This Indian Standard (Part 5) which is identical with ISO 3002-5 : 1989 ‘Basic quantities in cutting and grinding - Part 5: Basic terminology for grinding processes using grinding wheels’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Cutting Tools Sectional Committee and approval of the Production and General Engineering Division Council.
This standard is issued in five parts. Other parts are:

Part 2 Geometry of the active part of cutting tools - General conversion formulae to relate tool and working angles
Part 3 Geometric and kinematic quantities in cutting

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminology and conventions are however not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.
b) Comma ( , ) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point ( . ) as the decimal marker.
