NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 1) (First Revision) which is identical to IEC 60684-1 : 2003 'Flexible insulating sleeping - Part 1: Definitions and general requirements' issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Solid Electrical Insulating Materials and Insulation Systems Sectional Committee and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council.

This standard was first published in 1986 and was based on IEC 60684-1 : 1980. This revision has been undertaken to align this standard with the latest version of IEC 60684-1 : 2003.

This standard (Part 1) is one of the series of Indian standards which deal with flexible insulating sleevings. This series will cover the following in parts:

Part 1 Definitions and general requirements

Part 2 Methods of test

Part 3 Specifications for individual types of sleevings

This standard (Part 1) covers the definitions and general requirements of flexible insulating sleeving. The text of the IEC standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards.

Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appears referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
