1. SCOPE

1.1 This standard applies to the braking of powerdriven vehicles individually and to trailers individually of categories M2, M3, N and T as defined in IS 14272.

1.2 This standard does not cover:

a) Vehicles with a maximum design speed not exceeding 25 km/h,

b) Trailers which may not be coupled to powerdriven vehicles with a design speed exceeding 25 km/h, and

c) Vehicles fitted for invalid drivers.

1.3 Subject to the applicable provisions of this standard method of measuring reaction (response) times in brakes other than compressed-air brakes are not covered by this standard.

NOTE - Alternate performance requirements for vehicle categories N1 is given in IS 15986. Vehicle manufacturer may opt for compliance to IS 15986 instead of IS 11852.
