NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 2) (First Revision) which is identical with ISO 3160-2 : 2015 ‘Watch-cases and accessories - Gold alloy coverings - Part 2: Determination of fineness, thickness, corrosion resistance and adhesion’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Horology Sectional Committee and approval of the Production and General Engineering Division Council.

This Indian Standard was originally published in 1987. The first revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with latest version of ISO 3160-2 : 2015.

The major changes in this revision are as follows:

a) Reference methods of testing are specified for the fineness measurement of gold coverings in the event of arbitration;

b) Alternative method for obtaining gold alloy covering sample by dissolution of gold alloy covering;

c) Test method for the effect of agents containing sulfur; and

d) Provision for test of adhesion of gold alloy covering with the base metal.

This Indian Standard is published in two parts. The other part in this series is:

Part 1 General Requirements

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
