NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 1) (Second Revision) which is identical with 1SO 4254-1 : 2013 ‘Agricultural machinery — Safety — Part 1: General requirements’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Sectional Committee and approval of the Food and Agriculture Division Council.

This standard was first published in 1988 as a dual number standard and then revised in 1996 to align it with the revised ISO 4254-l : 1989 ‘Tractors and machinery for agriculture and forestry — Technical means of ensuring safety — Part 1: General’. This revision has been undertaken to align the standard with the latest version of ISO 4254-l which has replaced ISO 4254-l : 1989 after incorporation of technical changes.

This standard consists of three parts. The other two parts are:

Part 2 Tractors

Part 3 Requirements relating to power tillers

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are however not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
