This Indian Standard (Part 1) (Second Revision) which is identical with ISO 6489-1 : 2001 ?Agricultural vehicles - Mechanical connections between towed and towing vehicles - Part 1: Dimensions of hitch-hooks? issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by theBureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Agricultural Tractors and Power Tillers Sectional Committee and approval of the Food and Agriculture Division Council.

This standard was first published in 1988 based on ISO 6489-1 : 1980 ?Agricultural vehicles - Mechanical connection on towing vehicles - Part 1: Hook type? and ISO 6489-2: 1980 ?Agricultural vehicles - Mechanical connection on towing vehicles - Part 2: Clevis type?.

Due to revision of ISO 6489, IS 12362 was also revised in the year 1993 and made in three parts to make it more implementable and to align with corresponding ISO 6489. Due to further revision of ISO 6489-1 in 2001, it was decided to revise this standard also. In line with ISO Standard, the title of the standard has also been modified in the revised standard.

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards.Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ?International Standard? appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ?Indian Standard?.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.

In this adopted standard, reference appears to certain International Standards for which Indian Standards also exist. The corresponding Indian Standards which are to be substituted in their places are listed below along with their degree of equivalence for the editions indicated:
