NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 3) which is identical with IEC 61008-2-1 : 1990 ‘Residual current operated circuit-breakers without integral overcurrent protection for household and similar uses (RCCB’s) Part 2-1: Applicability of the general rules to RCCB’s functionally independent of line voltage’ issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Low Voltage Switchgear and Controlgear Sectional Committee and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council.

This Indian Standard is published in four parts. The other parts in this series are:

Part 1 Residual current operated circuit breakers without integral overcurrent protection for household and similar uses (RCCBs): Part 1 General rules

Part 2 Residual current operated circuit breakers with integral overcurrent protection for household and similar uses (RCBOs): Part 2 General rules

Part4 Residual current operated circuit breakers without integral overcurrent protection for household and similar uses (RCCBs): Part 4 Applicability of general rules to RCCB’s functionally dependent of line voltage

The text of IEC Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Wherever the words ‘Part 2-1’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Part 3’.

c) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
