IS 12777 : 1989 Method for Classification of Flame Spread of Products

1 Scope

1.1 This standard specifies a method of test for measuring theextent of flame spread along the surface of a specimen of amaterial or a product oriented in the vertical position, under theinfluence of external radiant heat flux; and a classificationsystem based on the rate and the extent of the flame spread. Itprovides data suitable for comparing the performances ofessentially flat materials, composites or assemblies which are usedprimarily as the exposed surfaces of walls or ceilings.

The test results relate only to the behaviour of specimens ofthe product under the particular conditions of test; they are notintended to be the sole criterion for assessing the potential firehazard of the product in use.
