IS 12957 : 1990 Expression of performance of sample handling system for fluids

UDC 681.2.08 : 681.121 LTD 8
Reaffirmed 2020

1 Scope

1.1 This standard applies to systems handling gaseous or liquidsamples for process analyzers used for any ultimate purpose(process control, emission, ambient air measurements, etc). It doesnot apply to systems for handling solid samples.

1.2 It applies to complete sample handling systems as well as tosample handling system components. Power supplies andinstrumentation for providing or controlling other utilitiesnecessary for process analysers or sample handling systemcomponents are considered part of the system only in so far as theyare a functional part of it.

1.3 It applies to facilities for maintaining the performance ofthe sample handling system.

1.4 It applies to facilities for maintaining the performance ofthe analyser if these facilities are part of the sample handlingsystem and not of the analyser.

1.5 General aspects of gas analysers are not dealt with in thisstandard.

1.6 This standard does not deal with safety aspects concerningelectric, explosive or toxic hazards.

1.7 Electric safety requirements are dealt with in IS 9858 :1981. Safety requirements for electronic measuring equipment.

1.8 Indian Standard on general requirements for electricalapparatus for use in explosive atmosphere is under preparation.

1.9 The influence by environmental conditions is dealt with inIS 9000 series of standards.

1.1O Requirements for output signals are dealt with in IS 8493 :1977 `Analogue dc voltage signals for industrial processmeasurement and control system', and IS 7722: 1975 `Analoguepneumatic signals for process control systems'.

1.11 This standard is in accordance with the general principalsset out in IS 9176: 1979 `Methods for specifying the functionalperformance of the electronic measuring equipment'.
