1 Scope
1.1 This recommended practice covers the procedure for applyingthe eddy current method to detect surface defects in round steelbars.
Note - For convenience, the term bars will hereafter be used torefer to round steel bars.
1.2 The procedure is specifically applicable to eddy currentexamination method using rotating probe coil assembly here afterreferred to as rotating head on which one or more probe coils aremounted.
1.3 This practice is intended for use on hot rolled and brightbars with diameter from 12 mm to 63 mm. The bars shall be straightwith maximum permissible deviation of 1.5 mm per metre. In case ofhot rolled bars the tolerance on diameter shall be � 1.2 percent of nominal value, and tolerance onovality shall be 80 percent of tolerance on diameter.
