NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 6/Sec 24) (First Revision) which is identical to ISO 9772 : 2020 'Cellular plastics - Determination of horizontal burning characteristics of small specimens subjected to a small flame' issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Methods of Sampling and Test for Plastics Sectional Committee and approval of the Petroleum, Coal and Related Products Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 2018 which was identical to ISO 9772 : 2012. This revision has been undertaken to align with the latest version of ISO 9772 : 2020.

The major changes incorporated in this revision are as follows:

 a) Better definitions of positions of specimen on wire mesh and of burner have been provided;

 b) Requirements for materials that show different damaged lengths on top and bottom faces of the specimen have been specified;

 c) Dimensions of cotton indicator have been reduced; and

 d) Reference to ASTM E2016 has been added.

The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

 a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appear referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and

 b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
