NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Part 2/Sec 24) (First Revision) which is identical with IEC 60601-2-24 : 2012 ‘Medical electrical equipment — Part 2-24: Particular requirements for the basic safety and essential performance of infusion pumps and controllers’ issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Electromedical, Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy Equipment Sectional Committee and approval of the Medical Equipment and Hospital Planning Division Council.
This standard was first published in 2009 identical to IEC 60601-2-24 : 1998. This revision has been taken up to align it with the latest version of IEC 60601-2-24 : 2012.
Only the English language text in the IEC Standard has been retained while adopting it in this Indian Standard, and as such the page numbers given here are not the same as in the IEC Standard.
The standard also makes a reference to the BIS Certification Marking of the product. Details of which is given in National Annex A.
The text of IEC Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are however not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
