National Foreword

This Indian Standard which is identical with ISO 2382-12 : 1988`Information processing systems - Vocabulary - Part 12 : Peripheralequipment', issued by the International Organization forStandardization (ISO), was adopted by the Bureau of IndianStandards on the recommendations of the Computer Media SectionalCommittee (LTD 37) and approval of the Electronics andTelecommunication Division Council.

The text of the ISO standard has been approved as suitable forpublication as Indian Standard without deviations. However,wherever the words `International Standard' appear referring tothis standard, they should be read as `Indian Standard'.
