This Indian Standard (Part 5) which is identical with ISO/IEC 8473-5 : 1997 ‘Information technology - Protocol for providing the connectionless-mode network service: Provision of the underlying service by ISDN circuit-switched B-channels’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and International Electro technical Commission (IEC) jointly was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Information and Communication Technology Sectional Committee and approval of the Electronics and Information Technology Division Council.
This standard was originally published in 1993 identical to ISO 8473: 1988. This ISO standard has been divided into 05 parts ( ISO/IEC 8473-1 : 1998 , ISO/IEC 8473-2 : 1996, ISO/IEC 8473-3 : 1995, ISO/IEC 8473-4 : 1995, ISO/IEC 8473-5 : 1997 ). IS 13611 has now been revised and has been divided in 05 parts in order to align it with the latest Publication of ISO/IEC 8473.The other parts ofthe seriesare:
Part 1 Protocol specification
Part 2 Provision of the underlying service by an lSO/IEC 8802 subnetwork
Part 3 Provision of the underlying service by an X.25 subnetwork
Part 4 Provision of the underlying service by a subnetwork that provides the OSI data link service
The text of ISO/IEC Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as decimal marker.
