1. SCOPE

1.1 This standard gives definitions, classifications, characteristics and marking requirements for ceramic tiles generally used for floor and wall surfaces. It also includes ceramic tiles used for paving, external and internal cladding, and swimming pools. It is not applicable to decorative accessories such as trims, edges, corners, coves, or curved tiles.

1.2 This standard applies to tiles of the best quality (first quality) unless otherwise specified in the relevant product standard.

The standards listed in Annex A contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard. At the time of publication, the editions indicated were valid. All standards are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards indicated in Annex A.
