National Foreword

This Indian Standard, which is identical with English version of ISO 6160 : 1979 `Programming languages - PL/1', issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendations of the Programming Languages Sectional Committee (LT 34) and approval of the Electronics and Telecommunication Division Council.

The English version of ISO standard itself endorses and consists of the ANSI Standard X 3.53-1976 `Programming languages - PL/1'.
