Revised Standard from Last Update.

NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 2) (Third Revision), which is identical with ISO 4797 : 2015 ‘Laboratory glassware — Boiling flasks with conical ground joints’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Glass, Glassware and Laboratoryware Sectional Committee and approval of the Chemical Division Council.

This standard specifies requirements for an internationally acceptable series of boiling flasks with conical ground joints for general laboratory purposes. This standard was originally published in 1954 and subsequently revised in 1977 and 2008. Second revision of this standard was based on ISO 4797 : 2004. The third revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with ISO 4797 : 2015.

The major changes in this revision are as follows:

a) Round-bottom flasks with nominal volumes of 3 l, 5 l, and 20 l have been added;

b) Overall heights of some round-bottom flasks of series 1 (Table 3) have been modified; and

c) Requirement for thermal shock endurance have been added.

This Indian Standard has been published in two parts. Other part in this series is:

Part 1 Narrow-necked boiling flasks

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appears referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
