1 Scope

This standard applies to in-core neutron detectors andinstrumentation which is designed for safety, information ofcontrol purposes. It also applies to components in so far as thesecomponents are contained within the primary envelope of thereactor. The detector types usually used are d.c. ionizationchambers, fission ion chambers and self-powered neutron detectors.

This standard is intended as a code of practice for the designof in-core instrumentation for neutron fluence rate measurements inthermal neutron reactors designed for power production. The majoremphasis in this guide is on the general design aspect of on-linesystems.

Note - For the principles of overall system design and purposeof neutron flux measurements, reference should be made to IS 12930: 1991 `General principles of nuclear reactor instrumentation,Clause 2'.
