National Foreword
This Indian Standard which is identical with ISO 7863 : 1984`Height setting micrometers and riser blocks, issued by theInternational Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted bythe Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of theEngineering Metrology Sectional Committee (LM 05) and approval ofthe Light Mechanical Engineering Division Council.
Height setting micrometer is a measuring instrument comprising asubstantial housing which carries a vertical movable column, positioned by a micrometer screw, with measuring elements providedwith regularly spaced, alternative or coplaner measuring faces. Thestandard specifies the characteristics of height setting micrometerwith a measuring capacity up to 600 mm and a minimum scale valuenot greater than 2 m together with riser blocks upto 600 mm in height. Test methods for checking accuracy of theseinstruments are also given for general information.
