NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 1) (Third Revision) which is identical with ISO/IEC 7811-1 : 2018 ‘Identification cards - Recording technique - Part 1: Embossing’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) jointly was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Computer Hardware, Peripherals and Identification Cards Sectional Committee and approval of the Electronics and Information Technology Division Council.

IS 14147 (Part 1) was originally published in 1994 and was identical to ISO/IEC 7811-1 : 1985. The standard was subsequently revised in 2003 and 2018 based on ISO/IEC 7811-1 : 2002 and ISO/IEC 7811-1 : 2014. The third revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of ISO/IEC 7811-1 : 2018.
