1 Scope

1.1 This standard covers general, safety and performancerequirements of domestic electric clothes washing machines, towater-extracting machines and to washing and water-extractingmachines, either with or without heating devices, for householduse, their rated voltage not exceeding 250 V, ac single phase ordc.

It also applies to combinations of these machines with heateddriers. Requirement and method concerning the performance of theselatter appliances are under consideration.

Note - Washing machines for commercial use in blocks of flats orin launderettes are within the scope of this standard but machinesfor commercial laundries are not included.

1.2 In addition the provision given in 1 of IS 302-2-7 : 1994for washing machines and IS 302-2-4 : 1993 for spin extractorsshall apply.

1.3 The standard states and defines the principal performancecharacteristics of household electric washing machines of interestto the users and to describe the standard methods for measuringthese characteristics and their requirements.
