IS 14168 : 2017/ISO 6986 : 2013 Side and Face Milling (Slotting) Cutters with Indexable Inserts - Dimensions
NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (First Revision) which is identical with ISO 6986 : 2013 ‘Side and face milling (slotting) cutters with indexable inserts — Dimensions’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Cutting Tools Sectional Committee and approval of the Production and General Engineering Division Council.
This standard was first issued in 1995 by taking assistance from ISO 6986 : 1983. Since ISO has revised its standard, now the committee has decided to adopt the revised ISO Standard in dual numbering to keep pace with the international developments. In this revision, besides other changes, the 250 mm diameter size for inserts has been removed and the shape of the inserts are left to the discretion of the manufacturer.
The indication of tolerance ‘k11’ is as per IS 919 (Part 2) : 2014 ‘Geometrical product specifications (GPS) — ISO code system for tolerance on linear sizes : Part 2 Tables of standard tolerance classes and limit deviation for holes and shafts (second revision)’ on width ‘l’ as given in IS 13244 : 1991 ‘Half side and face cutters with indexable inserts — Specification’ since no tolerance is specified in this adopted ISO Standard.
The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminology and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be readas ‘Indian Standard’.
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
