IS 14191 : 1996 Corrosion of Metals and alloys - classification of corrosivity of atmosphere

UDC 669 : 620.193.2 MTD 24
Reaffirmed 2021

1 Scope

1.1 This standard specifies key factors in the atmosphericcorrosion of metals and alloys, classifies Categories for time ofwetness and pollution by SO2 and airborne salinityand defines corrosivity categories on the basis of corrosionclassification data.

1.2 The classification given in this standard can be useddirectly to evaluate the corrosivity of atmospheres for metals andalloys under known conditions of time of wetness and pollution bySO2 and/or airborne chlorides within classifiedranges.

1.2.1 This standard does not characterize the corrosivity ofspecific service atmospheres, for example, the atmospheres ofchemical or metallurgical industries because the pollution and timeof wetness characterization of these environments cannot begeneralized.

1.2.2 The classified pollution and corrosivity categories can bedirectly used for technical and economical analysis of corrosiondamage and for rational choice of protection measures.

1.3 Annex A represents the technical content of this standard inform, easy to survey.
