This Indian Standard (Part 1) (First Revision) which is identical with IEC 61131-1 (2003) ?Programmablecontrollers - Part 1: General information? issued by the International Eiectrotechnical Commission (lEC)was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Industrial ProcessMeasurement and Control Sectional Committee and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council.

This part of the standard constitutes a series of standards on Programmable Controllers and theirassociated peripherals should be read in conduction with the other parts of the series. Other parts of theseries are as follows:

The text of the IEC Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard withoutdeviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian ?Standards. Attentionis particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ?International Standard? appear, referring to this standard, they should be readas ?Indian Standard?.

b)Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practiceis to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
