This India Standard (Part 1/Sec 4) (Third Revision) which is identical with IEC 61215-1-4 : 2021+Amd-1 : 2022 ‘Terrestrial photovoltaic (PV) modules — Design qualification and type approval — Part 1-4: Special requirements for testing of thin-film Cu(In,GA)(S,Se)2 based photovoltaic (PV) modules’ issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Solar Photovoltaics Energy Systems Sectional Committee and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council.

IS 14286 on Crystalline Silicon Terrestrial Photovoltaic Modules was originally published in 1995 and was first revised in 2010. Another standard IS 16077 on Thin-Film Terrestrial Photovoltaic Modules was initially published in 2013 and was based on IEC 61646 : 2008. The second revision of this standard IS 14286 in 2019, was undertaken to align it with the IEC 61215 series published in 2016, with new standard series structure consisting of:
