IS 1448 : Part 146 : 1998 Methods of test for petroleum and its products: Part 146 Determination of yield stress and viscosity of engine oils at low temperature

ICS 75.080 PCD 1
Reaffirmed 2021

1 Scope

1.1 This test method covers the measurement of the yield stressand viscosity of engine oils after cooling at controlled rates overa period exceeding 45 h to a final test temperature between -15 and-35C. The viscosity measurements are made at ashear stress of 525 Pa over a shear rate of 0.4 to 15 S-1.

1.2 The applicability to petroleum products other than engineoils has not been determined.

1.3 This test method uses the millipascal second (mPa.s) as theunit of viscosity. For information, the equivalent SI unit, themillipascal, is shown in parentheses.

1.4 This standard may involve hazardous materials, operations, and equipment. This standard does not purport to address all thesafety problems associated with its use. It is the responsibilityof the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety andhealth practices and determine the applicability of regulatorylimitations prior to use.
