NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard [P :161] which is identical with ISO 13032:2012 ‘Petroleum products - Determination of low concentration of sulphur in automotive fuels — Energy-dispersive x-ray fluorescence spectrometric method’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Methods of Test for Petroleum, Petroleum Products and Lubricants Sectional Committee and approval of the Petroleum, Coal and Related Products Division Council.

Following Indian standards also exist for determination of sulphur:

IS 1448 Methods of test for petroleum and its products:

i) [P : 33] Sulphur by bomb method

ii) [P : 34] Determination of sulphur in petroleum products (lamp method)

iii) [P : 159]/ISO 20884 : 2004 Determination of sulphur content of automotive fuels - Wavelengthdispersive

x-ray fluorescence spectrometry

iv) [P : 160] / ISO 20846 : 2011 Determination of sulphur content of automotive fuels - Ultraviolet fluorescence method

User of the standard shall decide suitability of the method as per the requirement given in the respective product specifications. Many of the product specifications also indicate the referee method in case of dispute.

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
