NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard [P : 92] (First Revision) which is identical with ISO 2137 : 2007 ‘Petroleum products and lubricants — Determination of cone penetration of lubricating greases and petrolatum’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendations of the Methods of Test for Petroleum, Petroleum Products and Lubricants Sectional Committee and approval of the Petroleum, Coal and Related Products Division Council.

This standard was first published in 1979 which was an adaptation of joint publication of ASTM D 937-77 and IP 179/68. The committee has now decided to revise this standard to align it with International Standard ISO 2137 : 2007 and publish under dual numbering system.

This standard supersedes IS 1448 [P : 60] : 1994 ‘Petroleum and its products — Methods of test [P : 60] Consistency of lubricating greases by cone penetrometer (second revision). After the publication of this standard, IS 1448 [P : 60] : 1994 shall be treated as withdrawn.

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
