IS 14682 : 2004 Automotive Vehicles - Lateral Protection (Side Guards) - Technical Requirements

1 Scope

1.1 This standard applies to the lateral protection of completevehicles offered by categories M2, M3, N2, N3, T3 and T4 as definedin IS 14272 (Part 1).

1.2 This standard does not apply to :

- Tractors for semi-trailers,

- Trailers specially designed and constructed for thecarriage of very

long loads of indivisible length, such astimber, steel bars, etc, and

- Vehicles designed and constructed for special purposewhere it is not

possible, for practical reasons, to fit suchlateral protection.

1.3 Purpose

Vehicles covered by this standard shall be so constructed and/orequipped as to offer effective protection to unprotected road usersagainst risk of falling under the sides of the vehicle and beingcaught under the wheels.
