NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (First Revision) which is identical with ISO 5608 : 2012 ‘Turning and copying tool holders and cartridges for indexable inserts — Designation’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Cutting Tools Sectional Committee and approval of the Production and General Engineering Division Council.

This standard was first published in 2000 by adopting ISO 5608 : 1995. This revision has been taken up to keep pace with the latest international developments that have taken place and to align it with the latest version of ISO 5608 : 2012.

In this revision, besides other changes, the standardized dimension f for turning and copying tool holders and cartridges with a rectangular shank has been given as per the latest ISO 5610 series (Parts 1 to 15) published in 2014 replacing the ISO 5610 : 1998 version. The designation of boring bars (tool holders with cylindrical shank) is given as per ISO 5609-1 replacing ISO 6261 : 2011.

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminology and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
