This Indian Standard (Part 2) (First Revision) which is identical to ISO 3408-2 : 2021 'Ball screws - Part 2: Nominal diameters, leads, nut dimensions and mounting bolts - Metric series' issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Machine Tools, Machine Tool Elements and Holding Devices Sectional Committee and approval of the Production and General Engineering Division Council.

This standard was first published in 2000 based on ISO 3408-2 : 1991. This revision has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of ISO 3408-2.

This standard has been published in 3 parts. Other parts in this series are:

Part 1 Vocabulary and designation

Part 3 Acceptance conditions and acceptance tests

The major changes incorporated in this revision are as follows:

a) Three series of ball screws reflecting different international standards have been defined;

b) Dimensions reflecting current market situations have been added; and

c) Different types of flanges reflecting state-of-the-art have been defined.

The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appear referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
